What Is GHK-Cu?

GHK-Cu is a naturally occurring copper-binding tripeptide composed of glycine, histidine, and lysine. Researchers have studied it for its involvement in cellular signaling, extracellular-matrix activity, and tissue-remodeling processes.

What Has Laboratory Research Found?

In a 1988 laboratory study using cultured fibroblasts, researchers observed that GHK and its copper complex influenced collagen synthesis.

A later study examined normal and radiation-exposed human fibroblasts. Cells exposed to GHK-Cu reproduced faster than untreated controls and showed early increases in certain growth factors associated with cellular repair processes.

Other laboratory studies have investigated GHK-Cu’s relationship with collagen production, fibroblast activity, and extracellular-matrix remodeling.

Why Is GHK-Cu Interesting to Researchers?

GHK-Cu continues to attract research interest because it may help scientists better understand:

  • Fibroblast activity
  • Collagen formation and remodeling
  • Cellular responses following tissue damage
  • Copper transport and cellular signaling
  • Extracellular-matrix regulation

What Are the Research Limitations?

Much of the available evidence comes from cell-culture and animal models. These findings do not establish safety, effectiveness, or an approved use in humans. Additional controlled research is needed to determine how laboratory observations may translate into clinical settings.
